Cactus Rats'
Host Family

A new era of baseball has arrived. The Edmonton Prospects, a staple in Alberta's baseball scene for 20 years, has been rebranded as the Energy City Cactus Rats — a fresh identity built on hard work, resilience, and community.

"This is more than just a name change — it's a complete evolution of our team's identity. The Energy City Cactus Rats represent the hard work, resilience, and passion of our players, staff, and fans."

Why Host?

Home Away
From Home

Thank you for considering becoming a Host Family with the Energy City Cactus Rats! Host Families play a crucial role in the summer collegiate baseball experience by providing players with a home away from home. Our roster consists of college athletes from across the globe who will call Spruce Grove home for the WCBL season.

Hosting a player is a rewarding experience that benefits both the athlete and the Host Family. There is no specific requirement for what a Host Family should look like — whether you have young children, older children, no children, pets, or a pet-free home, all are welcome. In return for your generosity, you'll gain a memorable summer experience and, more often than not, a lasting friendship that extends well beyond the season.

Your Role

What Is Expected
From a Host Family

During the 56-game WCBL season, players spend about half their time travelling for road games. As a Host Family, your main role is to provide a comfortable home environment that lets them focus on the game and their studies.

Bedroom & Bathroom

A furnished room and an available shared or private bathroom (bath/shower access) for the player(s).

Meals

Nutritious meals either prepared or ingredients available for the player to cook independently.

Amenities

Access to household amenities such as Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, kitchen, TV, and a barbecue.

Inclusion

Players should feel welcome — not just as tenants. Host Families are encouraged to involve them in family meals, gatherings, and outings when possible.
