Energy City Cactus Rats Home Opener Postponed
A HEARTFELT MESSAGE TO OUR FANS:
Energy City Cactus Rats Home Opener Postponed
Targeting July 12 Launch
METRO EDMONTON – The Energy City Cactus Rats of the Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) regretfully announce a postponement of their much-anticipated Home Opener at Energy City Metro Ballpark in Spruce Grove Alberta. While the team had hoped for June 24 as Opening Day, we are now targeting July 12 as our new, but still tentative, launch date.
This delay weighs heavily on us. We know how much this opening means to so many season ticket holders, families planning outings, community partners, and local businesses. You have believed in us, rallied behind us, and waited patiently, and for that we are deeply grateful.
“We are up against realities we cannot ignore, construction delays, incomplete seating and amenity installations, and the sheer complexity of opening a stadium of this scope.” said Patrick Cassidy, Managing Partner of the Cactus Rats. “While we had hoped for June 24, the truth is we will not be fully ready. We are now aiming for July 12 although even that remains a moving target.”
The initial phase of our opening will be a reduced capacity, soft-launch experience focused around our expansive 38,000 square foot patio area, a unique open-air environment built for casual connection and summer baseball vibes.
“Think of it as one big backyard picnic.” Cassidy said. “We are committed to doing everything in our power to deliver baseball...so, grab a drink, enjoy a hotdog, hang out with family and friends and take in the game under the open sky. It will not be polished... but it will be memorable, and it will be real.”
While the facility will not yet reflect its final vision, we are not asking fans to carry the cost of this reduced experience. In recognition of the current limitations and out of deep respect for our fans and partners we are offering the following:
- All season ticket holders, suite holders, loge table holders, and sponsors will be credited in full, and that total will be applied to the 2026 Season. (You will be contacted directly.)
- For the remainder of the 2025 Season, these same individuals will have the option to be the first to purchase tickets at a reduced value price per game should they wish to experience this unique early version of Energy City Metro Ballpark
- An additional update will be provided on June 26, 2025 including confirmation of ticket availability, costs, adjusted capacity numbers, and confirmed game day details
“We do not take this lightly, and we understand what we are asking of our supporters... to stick with us during a less-than-perfect rollout.” Cassidy continued. “We hope this gesture makes it clear that we see you, we value you, and we are in this together.”
As noted, our phased launch mirrors the path taken by the Sylvan Lake Gulls with the opening of their Stadium in 2021, where an incomplete venue still delivered unforgettable summer nights and a lasting legacy. That is the spirit we are channeling here... imperfect beginnings powered by community. “This delay is not the end of the story, it is the opening chapter” Cassidy said. “If you stick with us through these early scenes, we promise the next acts will be something to celebrate.”
We encourage fans to join us on the road in Okotoks, Sylvan Lake and other WCBL cities where our players continue to give it everything they have. Your support means the world to them too.
Please stay tuned across our official channels as we approach June 26 when we will share a comprehensive update including ticketing logistics, capacity limits, and Opening Day plans.
Thank you for standing with us.
Thank you for believing in what we are building.
The pay-off is coming and when it does, it will be worth every inning we waited for!
