Cactus Rats Kids Camp a Home Run for Young Ballplayers

Spruce Grove, AB – The Energy City Cactus Rats wrapped up an unforgettable 4-day Kids Camp this past week, welcoming dozens of young ballplayers to the diamond for a high-energy, skill-building, and memory-making baseball experience like no other.

Each morning, the field came alive with excitement as campers arrived decked out in their official Cactus Rats Kids Camp t-shirts, ready to learn, play, and represent their team colors with pride. The sea of matching shirts added a buzz of team spirit to the ballpark and set the tone for an action-packed week.

Led by Cactus Rats players and coaches, the camp offered hands-on instruction in the fundamentals of baseball, from hitting and fielding to pitching, base running, and game strategy. Through it all, the focus remained on fun, encouragement, and building confidence.

“There’s nothing better than seeing the next generation fall in love with the game,” said Head Coach Jordan Blundell. “The kids came ready to learn and play, and our players absolutely loved sharing their knowledge and passion with them.”

But the camp was more than drills and technique, it was about creating a sense of community and connection. Campers heard stories from their favorite players, asked questions, played games, and got a real behind-the-scenes look at what it means to be a Cactus Rat.1

A surprise appearance from Homer the Mascot on the final day brought pure joy to the field, as kids high-fived, posed for photos, and shared plenty of laughs. Many brought their Cactus Rats mini bats and collected autographs from players and coaches, a keepsake they’ll treasure for years to come.

“We're incredibly proud of how this camp came together,” said Allison Eastop Cooley, Community Relations Manager. “It’s not just about baseball, it’s about creating positive, lasting experiences for kids in our community. The energy and enthusiasm from both campers and our team was inspiring.”

The Cactus Rats extend heartfelt thanks to all the families who participated, the coaching staff and players who led with such heart and the community partners who helped bring the vision to life.

As we continue to build the future of baseball in Energy City, events like this remind us that the next generation is already stepping up to the plate.

We can’t wait to welcome these young athletes back to the field, whether it’s in the stands, on the base paths, or one day wearing a Cactus Rats jersey of their own.
